One of my passion projects is establishing data sovereignty. This involves running your own server with open source software. I use a Raspberry Pi as hardware and Nextcloud, the almost monopolistic market leader, as software.
Unfortunately, I was not at all satisfied with Nextcloud. It was extremely slow, overloaded, prone to errors, complicated… At one point, my data was almost wrecked.
Recently, a promising alternative has emerged: OpenCloud.
It is still a very young project, but it already covers all the functions you would expect. Unlike Nextcloud, it is designed to be as lightweight as possible.
After initial tests, the results were positive and promising.
So, decision: Switching to OpenCloud. I’m excited…
